Entry Sign to Martley Rock
No stopping the project. Andy has completed his site furniture assignment and installed the third item, a pamphlet dispenser, on 2nd January. All we need now are the contents which are in progress.
Everyone who has seen the visitors’ book box, noticeboard and now the dispenser agree that Andy has used his skills to manufacture excellent and lasting kit for the site–thanks Andy from all at TVGS.
Visitors to Martley Rock are indeed using the visitors’ book with only one pen taken so far–who was it?!

Visitors Book Box
Now that the trench has been extended to reveal the East Malvern Fault and the new red sandstone of the Triassic, a small contract to extend fencing has been placed. Visitors will notice that with the recent wet weather (a return to normality), the temporary parking area at the side of the drive has become very chewed up and muddy.
We are going to erect a line of posts to stop parking and in time other local arrangements will be made. In the meantime please walk to site leaving cars at a spot in the village.

Pamphlet Dispenser
Ross Farm Machinery, based in Martley behind the Edgar Taylor building, received a delegation from TVGS yesterday, the purpose to select a range of tools for Martley Rock and potentially our other sites’ maintenance. Thanks to the staff at RFM for their forbearence in dealing with enthusiastic amateurs and for the generous discount! The tools should be delivered in a few days so the time is drawing closer for gathering together a small team of maintenance volunteers. Watch out for the email.
A message was circulated asking for advice on site drainage. If you are able to help, even just to discuss, please get in touch. Our third progress report and claim for monies paid out will be submitted this week. Aimee, from Worcesteshre County Council, is moving jobs within the council, so will no longer be the claims’ liaison representative. Good luck Aimee and thanks for your help and support.
We are now turning our attention to the display boards for geological interpretation. Initial quotations are to hand, H&W Earth Heritage Trust personnel are working on the art and contents, and we are planning to erect the boards in mid March.
FINALLY–DIARISE MONDAY 23RD JANUARY 7.30pm MARTLEY VILLAGE HALL–Professor Donny Hutton will give an illustrated talk: “Continental break up-Geological Experiences in the Antarctic” More info to follow plus a reminder email–members, free, non-members £2.50 or free if you join TVGS at the door. This will be a wonderful evening led by Donny who lives locally, do come along.
